"Gallery of Enchantment" is a cyber-gallery we've specially created to showcase some of our students' art pieces. We want the kids to be proud of their creation, proud to showcase their TALENT to their parents, friends and the world. Do enjoy their masterpieces through the viewing of our "ENCHANTED GALLERIES"...

YEETONG - Creative Land of Santorini

Time to 'grill' the students with observation drawing and ideal use of colours we thought.

In this session, our intention is to get the students to do lines drawing of the scenic view of Santorini and then paint it with poster colours. Multiple colours of buildings and pathways is allowed. They can have free play in the use of colours!

For the more advanced students, the focus is mainly on the use of colours. As for the younger kids, we allowed their creative juices to flow freely, adding their own elements in their creation.

YEETONG - My Neighbours

This idea striked me while I was observing Debbie when she was drawing. She loves drawing housing estates and while drawing, she started counting no. of windows she has drawn...

*tink*tink* - Won't it be interesting to get the students to draw the uniqueness of their neighbours? If we were to observe blocks of HDB estates, it could be an interesting sight. Every unit has got its own character and their window may tells a 'story' about the family. We want to let the students' imagination run wild!

Quite impressed by some of the masterpieces created by the students. They never failed to surprise you. Always prepared for the unexpected when enjoying their work :P

YEETONG - WHITE on WHITE

Medium: Oil Pastel & Poster Paint

Oil resist Water. This is the technique we are going to demonstrate thru this lesson. We took a slightly difference approach this time round, expecting the students to begin by creating the background, then complete the art piece with the drawing of the main theme

STEPS TAKEN
1) Provide the student with a sample design of a tree (To create the background)
2) Using the provided reference, the student can start drawing the tree design using a WHITE oil pastel, onto the white drawing paper
3) After drawing, paint over the paper with coloured poster. The white drawings done earlier will then 'surface' out as oil pastel resist the poster paint
4) Wait for the painting to dry and then overlay it with the main theme design

Students find this an amazing technique. It is filled with 'mystery', especially before the applying of paint to the white drawing. The overall design will slowly surfaced out nearing the completion of art work! Nice attempt by all of them. Good job!

YEETONG - Colour on BLACK

Medium: Oil Pastel + Black Paper

Children are very used to drawing on white paper. When given a black piece of paper, how are they going to react??

In this lesson, we have decided to provide the children with black paper and wanted them to create an art piece with it. With some reference visuals as guide, they will have to start drawing using oil pastel. As students are not used to this method of drawing, choosing the right colour will be a challenge to them. How light can it go...how dark can be seen??? Through this art lesson, the kids will learn colour contrast and now to manage dark background drawing

YEETONG - Printing Plate Creation

Medium: FoamBoard + Waterproof Paint

In this lesson, we wanted the students to do a board printing assignment. Providing them with a foam board, they are to use their pencil to draw on board, afterwhich applying the paint on board and get the visual printed onto paper.

For younger students, the requirements will be to draw one overall visual and get it printed. Challenges posed to the more advanced group will be to create a comic strip printing board. Many of them find it confusing as things they drew turned out to be of 'opposite' direction when printed! Haha...a lesson learned :)

YEETONG - City in Frames

This is a 'Comic' Style drawing frame which we wanted the kids to create a city of their own within these frames

Few objectives to be delivered in this lesson
1) Learn how to draw 3-dimensional objects
2) Learn how to draw things in perspective (ie objects in front will be bigger...far away will be smaller)
3) Learn "Overlapping" drawing
4) Learn to draw details
5) Learn how to see things in "Separation"

To guide the kids along, a handout with shapes in 2D & 3D drawing were given to them as reference. Photos of city skyscraper were also provided to help them expand their creative mind. So far so good. The kids have managed it well :)

YEETONG - My Slippers "Footprint Round the World"

One Size doesn't Fit All! Rule of Game is to be able to... CUSTOMISE!

This is an exercise for the younger students. We have a standard Slippers Template which we want the kids to trace the shape onto their drawing paper. With all having the same slippers outline, they are required to become a 'designer', designing their own pair of slippers, giving it a different background

What did they come out with?... Yes! Slippers on sandy beach...on deep blue sea...on shallow river...on green grass patch...in jungle... Hahaha...They can be really creative man

What we want to achieve in this lesson is to let the kids' creative juices flow naturally. With limited guidelines given, the kids will have to learn to make their own decision and cope with "flexibility"

Some might say..."Isn't it easier for the kids if more flexibility were given to them?" You will be surprised man. Young kids will feel 'lost' if too many choices were given to them. They are used to receiving specific instruction to execute jobs given to them. They need to learn to move out from this 'box'! This is part of their learning process

YEETONG - Still Life Drawing (2-Dimensional)

In this session, we are teaching the kids "Still Life" drawing.

For the older kids, they are required to draw by observing REAL objects placed in front of them. We reckon this will be too challenging for the younger kids, hence the requirement for the younger students is to draw using a stack of picture cards as their reference source

Above is an example of what needs to be delivered by the younger kids. The main objective is for them to learn observating 2-dimensional subject, put what they see on paper and learn 'Overlapping' drawing. This is also an opportunity for us to introduce 'toning' effects to them. They will learn how to make use of different colour tone to create more dimensional images

YEETONG - Scratch Board "Paris & India Monument"

This is a technic whereby kids can create a special "Scratch Board" of their own, thereafter scratching out visuals that they like on it

Material Needed: Drawing Paper, Oil Pastel, Waterproof Poster (Dark Colour), sharp object (eg ruler, pen, sticks etc)

How to do:
- Step 1: Using Oil Pastel, fill the Drawing Paper with multiple colours. Be as colourful as possible
- Step 2: Paint over the whole coloured paper done in Step 1 with Waterproof Poster Colour
- Step 3: Once the Waterproof paint has dried up, we can start scratching out the design on the painted paper using a sharp object. Multiple colours will appear on the design once the layer of waterproof paint has been scratched out

Our experience:
- Success or failure of this artpiece is highly dependent on the type of oil pastel used. The oil pastel have to be "oily" enough so that scratching using sharp object can be done easily. Basing on our experience, some students faced difficulty in their scratching of design when they have used a different types of oil pastel which is too 'dry'

MY APPRENTICE - YEETONG (MS TAN)

I'm the "Apprentice" to Mr Ho, assisting him in his weekend classes. Kids of younger group tend to need more attention when learning. A class with one teacher to 8-10 over kids is just going to be kind of chaotic, indirectly affecting the learning ability of some kids. Having an 'apprentice' around is to make sure that needs of all kids are being taken care of. Every kid will have their fair share of quality learning with the teachers
