YEETONG - WHITE on WHITE

Medium: Oil Pastel & Poster Paint

Oil resist Water. This is the technique we are going to demonstrate thru this lesson. We took a slightly difference approach this time round, expecting the students to begin by creating the background, then complete the art piece with the drawing of the main theme

STEPS TAKEN
1) Provide the student with a sample design of a tree (To create the background)
2) Using the provided reference, the student can start drawing the tree design using a WHITE oil pastel, onto the white drawing paper
3) After drawing, paint over the paper with coloured poster. The white drawings done earlier will then 'surface' out as oil pastel resist the poster paint
4) Wait for the painting to dry and then overlay it with the main theme design

Students find this an amazing technique. It is filled with 'mystery', especially before the applying of paint to the white drawing. The overall design will slowly surfaced out nearing the completion of art work! Nice attempt by all of them. Good job!

YEETONG - Colour on BLACK

Medium: Oil Pastel + Black Paper

Children are very used to drawing on white paper. When given a black piece of paper, how are they going to react??

In this lesson, we have decided to provide the children with black paper and wanted them to create an art piece with it. With some reference visuals as guide, they will have to start drawing using oil pastel. As students are not used to this method of drawing, choosing the right colour will be a challenge to them. How light can it go...how dark can be seen??? Through this art lesson, the kids will learn colour contrast and now to manage dark background drawing

YEETONG - Printing Plate Creation

Medium: FoamBoard + Waterproof Paint

In this lesson, we wanted the students to do a board printing assignment. Providing them with a foam board, they are to use their pencil to draw on board, afterwhich applying the paint on board and get the visual printed onto paper.

For younger students, the requirements will be to draw one overall visual and get it printed. Challenges posed to the more advanced group will be to create a comic strip printing board. Many of them find it confusing as things they drew turned out to be of 'opposite' direction when printed! Haha...a lesson learned :)
